The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), through its Ministry of Primary, Secondary, and Technical Education (EPST), has signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Organization of La Francophonie to improve the quality of education through a program called KIX AFRIQUE 21 in the DRC. The ceremony took place last Friday in Kinshasa, in the presence of the Acting Secretary General of the EPST, Ms. Liyandja Lokese Ludovic, personal representative of Minister Tony Mwaba. Speaking to the press, the Acting Secretary General indicated that, as part of this partnership, awareness-raising efforts will begin in seven Congolese educational provinces. These include the five educational provinces of Kinshasa, Kwango, and Kongo Central 2. “We have already begun raising awareness in seven provinces here, namely: Kwango 1, Kongo Central 2, and all of Kinshasa, with the aim of training teachers and providing ongoing professional development to ensure the quality of our students’ education. If teachers aren’t trained, how can they teach? We don’t just need quantity in our schools; we also need quality,” she emphasized. It should be noted that, with the aim of contributing to the improvement of educational quality, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education organized a recruitment competition for teachers and principals a few days ago. The pilot phase of this competition covers the administrative provinces of Kinshasa, Kongo Central, and Kasaï Central. Ouriel Mangitukwa
