The Congolese government has stepped up school construction since 2019. These new school facilities support the policy of free primary education, enacted by President Félix Tshisekedi. During the 23rd weekly meeting of the EPST on Monday, April 10, 2023, Minister Tony Mwaba reiterated his desire to see a map that would make it easy to locate all these schools built to support, in particular, free primary education. “This mapping will help better inform our partners and the public about this aspect of the progress our country is making in this subsector, especially in the context of implementing free primary education,” commented Jean Jeff Mwanza, Director-Head of the Communication Management Directorate (DGC) at the ministry, following the meeting. During this 23rd meeting, the Minister of EPST also expressed his hope that the state’s assets in this sub-sector would be cataloged for preservation. A catalog of this heritage will be unveiled in the coming days, promised Tony Mwaba. This will, in particular, help curb the looting of EPST assets by private individuals. As a reminder, these weekly meetings were initiated to evaluate the activities carried out during the week by the various EPST departments. They have become the forum for identifying potential solutions to the various problems affecting the sub-sector. Bruno Nsaka
