The Annual Performance Review (APR) was held from July 19 to 21 of this year in the Funa/Kasa-Vubu educational sub-province in Kinshasa.
The Director of this educational sub-province, Jude Nkaka, stated that several recommendations were made, including the provision of desks in primary schools, teacher training, and the development of vendors in the areas surrounding schools. “There are many such recommendations, but we will review them in light of our operational action plan. For instance, regarding the feasibility of equipping public primary schools with desks. There are also recommendations related to quality, such as training for teachers, educators, and inspectors, as well as the recruitment of inspectors at the preschool level. Additionally, regarding good governance, there was a push to ensure that every school establishes management bodies, including management committees, parent-teacher associations, student councils, and many others,” he noted. Over the course of three days, education partners, school principals, and teachers reviewed the recommendations from last school year’s Operational Action Plan to address weaknesses. “Together with all participants and stakeholders, we addressed performance analysis—specifically the recommendations from last year’s Operational Action Plan—so that we could identify areas of weakness and improve them to achieve a 100% performance rate,” added the deputy principal. He continued, “In addition to the performance review, we also monitored reforms and analyzed school maps—that is, the status of our schools in the Kasa-Vubu area. There are schools we must close due to non-viability in accordance with the law; there are schools we must merge; there are requests for school accreditation; and there are school openings. It is these meetings that allow us to review all these requests.” For his part, the mayor of the municipality of Kasa-Vubu, Phinnée Massombo, praised the quality of the work, which, in his view, demonstrates the participants’ commitment to children’s education. He subsequently reaffirmed his commitment to implementing the recommendation made to him: to improve conditions in school environments.
