Digital education in the DRC: building the capacity of primary school teachers through the use of educational digital technology

The IFADEM Project in the DRC is strengthening its distance learning program by rolling out a fully online platform.

The implementation of a platform to facilitate online training was completed following a training workshop on administering the Moodle platform and designing educational content, which took place in Lubumbashi, in Haut-Katanga Province, from July 29 to August 8, 2024.

This workshop helped strengthen the skills of officials from the Ministry of National Education and New Citizenship in managing an online training system and designing educational content.

This phase represents a further step forward, following the piloting of the blended learning model previously used in the provinces of Haut-Katanga, Haut-Lomami, Lualaba, Tanganyika, and Kasaï Oriental.

Co-organized by APEFE and the Institut de la Francophonie pour l’éducation et la formation (IFEF), in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, the workshop followed the one held in May 2024, which had enabled participants to familiarize themselves with various practical aspects of the IFADEM training process, such as the establishment of coordination structures, content design, and the deployment of digital tools.

Facilitated by Jean Gustave TIOGO from Burkina Faso, participants expressed satisfaction with the results achieved, particularly the installation and configuration of the “IFADEM” Moodle platform, user account management, course scripting, and the development of assessment strategies.

The workshop concluded with the presentation of certificates of participation and tablets to the participants. Clément Tshibangu, Education Program Administrator at APEFE, encouraged the application of the knowledge gained to improve the quality of education in the DRC.
