The director of the Ituri 1 educational province has sounded the alarm following the mass displacement of students in the Djugu territory of the Nizi subdivision, caused by the insecurity plaguing this eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Reached by phone by the DGC-EPST on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, the provincial director of Ituri 1, Jean Jacques Masumbuku, reported that administrative buildings and various schools have been set on fire by armed groups, including the ADF. He noted that the security situation affecting the EPST sub-sector in this educational entity impacts 20,953 students. There are also 17 destroyed schools, 406 teachers in urgent need of supplies, and 1,937 teachers requiring capacity-building in peace education and psychosocial support. The principal confirms that he has already submitted his emergency report to the relevant EPST authorities so that a solution can be found quickly. In particular, he recommends the construction of new school infrastructure to improve learning conditions within his jurisdiction. Cephora Kokanzo
