Free primary education has enabled more than 4 million Congolese children to return to school. This was stated by Victoria Kwakwa, World Bank Vice President for East and Central Africa, to Nicolas Kazadi and Aimé Boji, the Congolese Ministers of Finance and Budget, respectively. These two government officials are attending the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which are being held in Marrakech from October 9 to 15, 2023. On this occasion, the World Bank pledged to continue supporting the Congolese government to ensure the full success of this policy, which is a lifeline for many Congolese households. For their part, Nicolas Kazadi and Aimé Boji expressed their gratitude to the World Bank, a partner of the DRC in various fields, particularly infrastructure and human capital development. As a reminder, in June 2020, the World Bank’s Board of Directors approved a disbursement of $800 million to be paid over four years to the national treasury in support of free primary education.
