On Monday, June 9, in Kinshasa, the Ministry of National Education and New Citizenship organized an awareness-raising meeting for union representatives and senior staff of the National Service for Student Identification and Academic Progress Monitoring (SERNIE) regarding the reform to streamline administrative offices.

This meeting, convened on the instructions of the Minister of State, Minister of National Education and New Citizenship, Raissa Malu, was led by her Chief of Staff, Simon Zono Inga Leya.

The main objective is to build a Congolese education system that is fairer, more transparent, and more robust. Ministry officials explained the process in detail, assuring attendees that this reform will not result in staff layoffs.

“We held this meeting to raise awareness among Sernie staff about the importance of the reform being carried out by the DRC government, with the aim of building a more equitable, transparent, and robust Congolese education system,” stated Simon Zonon, Chief of Staff.

He added

“The government aims to strengthen the quality of educational governance to better serve students, teachers, schools, and, by extension, the entire country,” he told union delegates and Sernie executives.

SERNIE is an important service within the Congolese education system that contributes to improving the quality of education, notably by combating truancy and the proliferation and circulation of fake school documents and records; demoting students who forge documents; and authenticating school documents and records.
