The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, plans to extend free education to the secondary level. He announced this to the people of Kolwezi, the capital of Lualaba Province, on Wednesday, October 5, during a rally broadcast live on the Congolese National Radio and Television (Rtnc). “Everyone here is aware of the program for free primary education, which I have implemented since taking office as head of our country. In the coming days, if you place your trust in me, I will extend free education to the secondary level,” said the head of state. In several of his recent media appearances, the President has consistently placed free primary education at the top of the list of the greatest achievements of his first five-year term. “If we succeed in education, everything else will follow because we will have men and women who are educated and capable of facing all the challenges that arise. We must educate all our children. It is through education that we will curb all the ills we lament today, particularly corruption,” he said in an interview with his spokesperson Tina Salama on July 8, on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the DRC’s independence. It should be noted that statistics confirm that more than 5 million children have returned to school since the implementation of free primary education in 2019. Ouriel Mangitukwa
