Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo has made education a top priority for the sustainable development of his country, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Congolese head of state made this clear on Saturday, August 12, during the presentation of the Excellentia scholarship to the winners of the 4th edition. According to him, there can be no sustainable development without investment in education. “Since my ascension to the highest office, I have made education one of my priorities, because there can be no sustainable development without investment in education. In 2019, many observers and political analysts believed I would fail because we lacked the resources, but thanks to free education, we have managed to bring more than 5 million children back to school,” he said. The Head of State used this ceremony to reaffirm the government’s support for the Dénise Nyakeru Tshisekedi Foundation, which is very active in the education of Congolese youth. Notably, 58 recipients of the 4th edition of Excellentia received their scholarships, along with 17 others from the first edition of Excellentia Lualaba Bora, initiated by Governor Fifi Masuka. As a reminder, since the launch of the Excellentia scholarship in 2019, 241 scholarship recipients—82 of whom are studying abroad and 159 locally—have benefited from the program. Célestin Zeula
