Since taking office as president, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi has made it a top priority to support Congolese school-age children. To that end, he introduced free public primary education throughout the country so that every school-age child whose parents cannot afford it can also benefit from an education. This is what the Director of President Félix Tshisekedi’s Communications Unit, Mr. Erik Nyindu, implied during his appearance on the Bilembo ya Béton program. For him, “Félix Antoine Tshisekedi’s priority was to provide children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with access to education,” he said. He went on to explain that, “This need stems from the implementation of free public primary education, which led to the first consequence: the return of many children to school. This decision resulted in overcrowded schools, hence the construction of numerous school facilities through the local development program in 145 territories,” he explained. To combine business with pleasure, Érik Nyindu noted that "at least 7,000 schools are under construction, and approximately 80% of these schools have already been built. We will continue to build because the population is growing every year, and many children are of school age; we need infrastructure to accommodate these children," he emphasized. "It should be noted that the Head of State has not limited himself to just building schools; they are equipping them to ensure good learning conditions, and above all, the Head of State is now focusing on the quality of public primary education by directing the relevant ministry to prioritize teacher training, to name just one example," added Érik Nyindu.
