Six classrooms destroyed, leaving 610 students unable to attend classes, with no loss of life—this is the preliminary assessment of the fire that broke out on Thursday, January 25, 2024, around 4:00 p.m. at EP Popo in the Mado sub-division of the Ituri 2 educational province. Marie Boroto Masawa Salomé, Provincial Director of Ituri 2, who spoke with the EPST Communications Management Directorate, stated that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire. Pending a permanent solution, Ms. Marie Boroto reported that two schools are temporarily accommodating the students affected by this tragedy. These are E.P. Aubha and the Ombati Institute. This emergency measure was implemented by education authorities to allow the affected students to attend afternoon classes without disruption, thereby ensuring the school calendar—which has been strictly adhered to for the past two years—remains on track.
