22,378,140,000 Congolese francs is the emergency funding disbursed by the Congolese government to the Ministry of Primary, Secondary, and Technical Education (EPST).

This is stated in a letter from Budget Minister Aimé Boji signed on January 13.

According to this document, this sum relates to the adjustment of the payment of the tuition-free allowance for primary school teachers for the months of October, November, and December 2022.

The Executive Committee of the EPST Teachers’ Union Alliance, which confirms the information, states that teachers will see the funds credited to their accounts by the end of this week, January 16.

“Primary school teachers will see their accounts credited by the end of the week. For the other months, next week. The Executive Committee of the EPST Teachers’ Inter-Union Alliance extends its deepest gratitude to all the fellow union leaders who mobilized to defend the interests of our fellow primary school teachers,” stated the president of the EPST Teachers’ Inter-Union Alliance.

In July 2022, while responding to an oral question posed by a national deputy, the Minister of EPST, Professor Tony Mwaba Kazadi, announced a 67% adjustment to the free education allowance for approximately 372,900 teachers.

He added that “on the instructions of President Tshisekedi, this provision would take effect as of the July payroll.”

It should be noted that this decision stems from the government’s commitments made through the Bibwa Memorandum of Understanding signed on November 19, 2021, in Mbwela Lodje, Kisantu, in the Kongo-Central Province.
