During an educational meeting with secondary school principals in the city of Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga 1 Educational Province, on Thursday, January 18, Nicolas Nyange Bizy, Provincial Chief Inspector (IPP), emphasized the importance of improving the teaching and learning system through the establishment of school libraries and the proper organization of assessments. “Given that textbooks contain content aligned with the national curriculum, every school is expected to have a school library to enable students to receive a proper education,” he stated, noting the need for technical schools to have laboratories and workshops. The inspector also emphasized the importance of adhering to teaching and learning schedules in improving the quality of education. “Each instructional sequence—or better yet, each lesson taught in the classroom—must last a total of fifty minutes,” he specifies. Regarding the quality of formative assessments, the Provincial Chief Inspector of Haut-Katanga 1 urges school principals to make it a habit to meticulously review the exam questions proposed by teachers. “Examine, review, and verify meticulously whether the questions teachers have prepared align with Benjamin Bloom’s taxonomy—that is, whether they address knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. The scores students receive must be objective and reflect their level of intelligence," he emphasizes. Nicola Nyange thus advocates for school principals to promote innovative teaching practices in their respective schools. “All schools must urgently review their management practices in light of innovative teaching approaches based on situational learning, particularly in the fields of science, language learning, and the social and environmental sciences,” he concluded.
