The director of the Haut-Katanga 1 educational province, Joseph Mwinkeu Tshiend, met on Thursday, November 9, with a delegation from the NGO Global Vision 2020. Composed of American and Canadian ophthalmologists, the delegation came to present to the Haut-Katanga 1 educational authority a project for eye examinations and treatments for students in Lubumbashi, which it plans to implement early next year. According to him, this project will benefit students from families facing financial difficulties. “There have been many complaints in previous years. Children would ask their parents to sit in front of them. It is in light of all these complaints that we are once again implementing this project. The NGO Global Vision 2020 does not stop at simply examining the eyes of children with near or far vision problems, but goes so far as to provide free eyeglasses to treat the conditions discovered. This project is for all children without distinction, but especially those whose parents lack sufficient financial means,” explained Bijou Kabwang of the NGO Global Vision 2020. The educational authorities of Haut-Katanga 1 expressed their gratitude to the organization for selecting their jurisdiction for this first phase. “As a leader, I must ensure the health of children, which has a significant impact on their education. Especially regarding their eyes, which are an effective means of communication in their learning throughout their school career. Because if a child cannot see well, it can affect their performance. I am nevertheless pleased that my educational province of Haut-Katanga 1 has been selected to implement this project, which will benefit many students who have vision problems, whether near-sighted or far-sighted,” said Provincial Education Director Joseph Mwinkeu Tshiend. This project will begin in 2024 and run for three years. In this first phase, it will target students in Lubumbashi schools aged between 10 and 15. Dan de Dieu Kayanda
