Parents must be informed about the scope of free primary education to clear up any confusion. This is one of the key recommendations made by the IPP of Haut-Katanga I, Nicolas Nyange Bizy, during the working session he held on Saturday, December 9, with the chief inspectors of the primary and secondary school districts of Lubumbashi, Likasi, Kambove, Sakanya, and Kipushi. This directive follows confusion observed among certain parents in his jurisdiction regarding the scope of free education. “There is significant confusion among parents regarding the issue of free education. Some believe that the provision of free public primary education applies to education in general. Even if they have children in secondary school, they do not want to pay administrative fees,” noted the Chief Inspectors of the pools. To dispel this misunderstanding, the IPP recommended intensifying awareness-raising sessions for parents on the scope of free public primary education. Mr. Nicolas Nyange also urged the Inspectors to ensure strict adherence to the school calendar for the end of the first term. Elementary school principals must issue report cards to students before they go on vacation. Furthermore, they must not collect school fees in advance. It should be recalled that a week ago, a man, unaware of the scope of free public primary education, falsely reported to the head of state during his campaign that free public primary education was not being implemented in Katanga.
