Kapend Ntambwe, principal of a primary school, and Yebondo Jean Pierre, headmaster at the Javiani school complex in the Golf Météo 2 neighborhood, have both been suspended by the authorities of the Haut-Katanga 1 educational province.
These school administrators are accused, in particular, of requiring students to pay exam fees and of increasing school fees, contrary to the provincial governor’s decree.
Joseph Mwinkeu, director of the Haut-Katanga 1 educational province, reiterated the penalties imposed on any educational authority found to be collecting illegal fees.
“We have repeatedly raised awareness among school principals and convened school administrators to urge them to strictly adhere to official instructions. We have asked them never to collect illegal fees. But, seriously, they continue to do so. This time, we will not only suspend operations but close the school in accordance with current legal provisions,” he stated.
It is worth noting that the National Minister of Primary, Secondary, and Technical Education (EPST), Professor Tony Mwaba, has made the fight against unethical practices in this sub-sector his top priority.
The Minister has particularly emphasized strict action against any obstacle to the free public primary education decreed by President Tshisekedi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
