Students at the La Providence school complex in Tshikapa were educated on Saturday, November 18, about gender-based violence (GBV) in schools. Denise Muluka, the provincial minister for gender, family, and children in Kasaï, led this initiative to raise awareness among female students, who are often victims of such practices at the hands of teachers. The minister urged any female student who witnesses her teacher repeatedly subjecting her to remarks or behavior of a sexual nature, or that infringes upon her dignity due to its degrading or humiliating nature, to report it immediately so that the perpetrator can be punished. Teachers were also reminded to perform their duties with respect for the human dignity of their students. Furthermore, Minister Denise Muluka urged the head of this school, located in the municipality of Kanzala, to ensure strict adherence to the official instructions issued by the Minister of EPST, Professor Tony Mwaba, regarding the prevention of GBV in schools. As a reminder, the fight against GBV is one of the battles the EPST has been waging for several years to improve the school environment by making it safer every day for all children, regardless of their gender or disability.
