On Wednesday, February 7, an awareness campaign regarding the recruitment of teachers and principals through competitive examinations was launched in the Kinshasa-Funa educational province. The ceremony was presided over by the head of the educational province, Jean-Marie Mvunzi, at the Athénée de la Victoire school. This reform, which is part of the Sectoral Strategy for Education and Training (SSEF), aims to ensure the quality of the individuals contributing to the improvement of educational standards. “We realized that we cannot achieve quality with people who do not meet the criteria. So, from now on, in every province following this awareness campaign, the recruitment of teachers and principals will no longer be done as before; they will have to go through a competitive exam. At that point, each province will have a database; whenever there is a vacancy somewhere, we will draw from this database those who meet the criteria,” he explained. “But those who will actually carry out the training to fulfill the role at the grassroots level are those who are part of the EPST management offices—including sub-proveds, inspools, branch chiefs, and many others—who will then identify the teachers, recruit them, and send the data to the provincial level for the publication of results,” added the Proved of Kinshasa -Funa. Several parties took part in this first day dedicated to information sharing, including union representatives, civil society, local representatives of political and administrative authorities, and even parent representatives. Launched this Wednesday, February 7, this awareness campaign will last four days, through Saturday, February 10. It will be followed by the competition. Ouriel Mangitukwa & Hugo Kambala
