On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, the NGO Women’s Media Leadership raised awareness among female students at Shaumba High School in Kinshasa about “women’s leadership,” as part of the celebrations for Women’s Rights Month in March. During this awareness-raising session centered on the 2024 international theme for International Women’s Day, the NGO’s facilitators emphasized the need to invest in young girls to foster effective leadership through quality education, thereby ensuring a better future. Grâce Shako, national coordinator of LFM, demonstrated to her audience the qualities of a good leader who has a vision for the growth and development of their team or community. “A leader does not give up; they know where they are going, they have a clear vision, they love what they do, and they surround themselves with elders or pioneers to achieve their goal no matter the difficulties,” she emphasized. Ms. Shako told the girls that the investment their parents have made in their education remains the best path for them to succeed by being diligent students. For their part, Marlene Kapinga and Ruth Meta, also members of this organization, offered some wise advice to the girls, particularly regarding the choice of academic tracks to pursue, as well as commitment and determination in their studies to succeed in life. Through this awareness campaign and sharing of experiences, the NGO Women’s Media Leadership is paving the way for a better future for young girls. Since a young girl’s place is in school, LFM remains determined to work toward the emergence of a new generation in which every young girl is aware of her role in society. Ivan Honoré Mudiangombé
