Members of the provincial and sub-provincial committees of the Kinshasa-Lukunga Educational Province began their training on the new teacher recruitment system on Thursday, February 8, 2023. The training is taking place at the Gombe 1 Institute. This training aims to equip EPST technicians who will organize the teacher recruitment exams in their respective jurisdictions in accordance with the standards required by this new reform, which was implemented to improve the quality of education. As a result, certain criteria must be met for a teacher to be eligible for recruitment. These include holding a degree in education, being between the ages of 18 and 35, and being a Congolese citizen. For Dieudonné Ntumba, one of the facilitators approached by the DGC/EPST, the first day of training focused on using the procedure manual to enable participants to master the merit-based recruitment process. "Since we are in a time of reform, we must support this reform with standards; the procedure manual outlines the responsibilities of every stakeholder involved in this recruitment process. Trainees must master the merit-based recruitment process, as well as the tools necessary to apply at each stage of recruitment," he explained. Organized by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (EPST) through the Human Resources Directorate with support from the Project for Equity and Strengthening of the Education System (PERSE), this training will last three days. It was preceded by a day of stakeholder outreach regarding this reform. Participants in this session include deputy directors, chief pool inspectors, union representatives, and human resources managers at the provincial and sub-provincial levels of the EPST.
