Jean Tshisekedi, director of the Kongo Central 2 Educational Province (PROVED), reiterated the ban on charging internship fees to students in the fourth year of the humanities track (formerly the sixth year of secondary school).

These fees, he reiterated during a press briefing held on Friday, February 17, 2023, are not authorized by the provincial governor’s decree.

“No school principal has the right to charge for the internship of 6th-year secondary students. This is not normal since the internship permit is free. Nowhere in the governor’s decree is there any mention of a fee for an internship. All school principals who engage in this practice will be severely punished. And I ask parents and civil society actors to report such cases to help us in our work,” he stated.

Jean Tshisekedi also encouraged the six sub-division heads of the Kongo Central 2 educational province to conduct inspections to discourage this practice.

It should be noted that the school calendar includes an internship for students in their final year of secondary school.

This internship takes place after the first-semester exams.

For those in the education program, this internship takes place at the elementary school.
