Behind the lanterns that went out in the city of Kisantu following the meetings held there from July 21 to 27, 2023, a strong glimmer of hope has been kindled in the minds of teachers and administrative staff at the Ministry of Primary, Secondary, and Technical Education (EPST). As a reminder, the purpose of this meeting was to evaluate the implementation of the roadmap for the addendum to the Mbwela Memorandum of Understanding between the unions and the government of the DRC. The Mbwela IV proceedings concluded with actions ranging from the mechanization of new units (NUs) to the payment of inspectors and support staff of the General Inspectorate. Among the key actions that have already secured the meeting’s place in the country’s history are: - the mechanization of 13,058 NUs; - the adjustment of salaries and bonuses for 63,461 teachers; - the allocation of operating funds for 218 administrative offices; - the readjustment of operating funds for the free education allowance for approximately 377,035 teachers and the payment of 24,425 inspectors and support staff of the General Inspectorate. It should be noted that to implement these eight priority actions, the DRC government has disbursed a total of 24,792,722,053 Congolese francs. Alain Héritier Kinanga
