School activities in the administrative province of North Kivu officially resumed on Monday, January 8, 2024, following the Christmas and New Year’s break, in accordance with the 2023–2024 school calendar. In the cities of Goma, Beni, and Butembo, there was a strong turnout of students at schools. Contacted by the EPST’s Communication Management Directorate (DGC-EPST), Luc Gbaweza Kabango, director of the North Kivu 1 educational province, welcomed this effective resumption of classes. “This effective resumption of classes puts an end to the rumors that circulated online last week following fake news reports claiming a supposed change to the school calendar,” he said. As a reminder, the EPST confirmed the resumption of classes on January 8, 2023, to strictly adhere to its school calendar, as has become customary since last school year. Dan de Dieu Kayanda
