Every release of state exam results brings its share of celebrations for those who have triumphed and, unfortunately, a valley of tears and despair for those who have failed. Faced with the doubts and resignation to fate that result from failure, Director Odon, an educational psychologist specializing in academic counseling at the Ministry of EPST, offers six tips for bouncing back and embracing life with a positive outlook. Accept failure This expert’s first secret is to own up to your failure and avoid shifting the blame onto others. “The first thing I can say is to accept failure. Accept things as they are and don’t blame anyone.” While acknowledging that this is no easy feat, Mr. Odon adds that it’s not the end of the world. Don’t drop out of school It’s a common reflex to drop out of school after failing. However, this expert discourages young people from even considering it. “Don’t even think about it. It’s pure madness,” he insisted. It won’t change anything. On the contrary, students must believe that the diploma is important and that even if it didn’t work out this time, next time will be the right one. To convince young people, this educator shared his family’s experience. “My older sister failed the State Exam three times. She never gave up. My older brother was the only one in his class to fail, and the following year, he earned his diploma.” “Just as you failed this year, next year you will succeed,” he encouraged them. Avoiding Isolation Principal Odon discouraged the young people from isolating themselves due to the dangerous consequences of such behavior. “Avoid being alone or shut in your room.” This will lead you to think about suicide, make bad decisions, and destroy yourself psychologically. Instead, he encourages young people to surround themselves, during this time, with family, friends, or a partner, if they have one. Relaxation It’s not a bad idea to combine business with pleasure. In these troubled times, you need to relax. “Find something you love and relax, because life goes on. If you love music, then listen to your favorite songs. If you love sports, play them. If you love going for walks, go ahead, but don’t go alone. If you love reading, enjoy your favorite books.” Take the time to talk with parents and guardians Failure causes pain and disappointment for parents. Instead of running away from your parents, you should talk to them about it. “Tell them that you’re aware of this result and that you accept it. Tell them that you weren’t born to fail and that this failure is just a situation to make you even stronger and smarter.” What matters here is convincing your parents to trust you again and support you in the new year, emphasized Mr. Odon. Invest This final piece of advice is aimed more at those whose failure is linked to a lack of financial resources. “Find an activity that can generate income for you. However,” the educator qualified, “you shouldn’t jump into big business ventures. Instead, you should invest what little you have to cover your expenses.” Mr. Odon suggested several options in this regard, such as opening a shop, a hair salon, a restaurant, or selling items online, …” Success, concluded educator Odon, must be guided by parents who should encourage their children to cultivate a culture of hard work from an early age. Failure in life is believing that you will never recover. Deleine Diazolakana
