The payroll for teachers in the new units of the Ministry of Primary, Secondary, and Technical Education (EPST), scheduled for late April, has not been postponed to July 2023, contrary to rumors circulating on social media. This clarification was provided on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, by Jean-Jeff Mwanza, Director-General of the Communication Management Directorate (DGC) at the Ministry of EPST. He made this statement during the monthly meeting that brings together all staff and managers within the directorate. Jean-Jeff Mwanza, who did not hesitate to dismiss these rumors out of hand, explained that they are fake news being spread with the aim of undermining the achievements made in the EPST subsector since Minister Tony Mwaba took office. “I don’t know where the people spreading this false information are getting it from. We must focus on the minister’s official communication on this matter. As you know, the minister’s latest statement includes several pieces of good news regarding teachers. No other contradictory communication has followed. On what basis can you give credence to this fake news?” As a reminder, in a press release dated April 6, 2023, Minister Tony Mwaba announced that the Treasury would assume responsibility, effective at the end of April, for several teaching positions, including 682 in kindergarten, 5,535 in elementary school, and 10,002 in secondary school. The same press release also announced the hiring of 2,200 inspectors from the 2018 cohort. Bruno Nsaka
