How does a math class help in everyday life? This question deserves a proper answer to put an end to the debate over the importance of this subject in students’ lives. From arithmetic to algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, mathematics permeates every aspect of life, according to Freddy Bola, a mathematics teacher at the Bokeleale Institute in Kinshasa. In his argument, he begins with the famous saying that in the beginning, in order to map the Earth’s curves, calculate the distances between celestial bodies so they could hang in space and maintain their gravitational pull, God employed geometry and mathematics. Humans cannot do without mathematics, this mathematician believes. He points out that from the moment he gets out of bed, he must plan his day: the current time, the time it will take to get ready, the time it will take to travel from home to work, and the time he will spend there—he must keep track of his time. "The housewife must budget her day based on the amount of money she has; she must make calculations so that daily expenses do not exceed the planned amount. From the producer to the merchant, in order to turn a profit, they must perform meticulous calculations. "Without realizing it, humans are mathematicians by nature to ensure their survival," he added. It must also be said that, due to population growth and humanity’s ever-increasing needs, mathematics must be applied so that humans can meet those needs. From arithmetic to algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, we can conclude that mathematics permeates every aspect of life. Cheta Birhashwirwa Riziki
