It is with deep sadness and profound emotion that the Ministry of National Education and New Citizenship learned of the tragic deaths of two students from Kabare Primary School (EP Kabare), which occurred on Saturday, June 14, 2025, under tragic circumstances linked to clashes between armed groups in the Kabare territory of South Kivu province.
Other students, including some from neighboring schools, were also seriously injured during this outbreak of violence that occurred in the immediate vicinity of the schools—places that should remain sanctuaries of peace, learning, and protection.
The Ministry extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and expresses its profound solidarity with the entire educational community in the Kabare territory and the South Kivu 1 educational province, which have been severely affected by this tragedy.
In the face of this unacceptable act, the Ministry strongly reaffirms that schools and their surroundings must remain strictly neutral zones, protected from all forms of violence. It calls upon the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure respect for the fundamental right to education, including in times of crisis.
