Nearly 140 teachers were trained in the Équateur 1 educational province from September 6 to 13, 2025, by experts from the Ministry of National Education and New Citizenship (EDU-NC) on the new curriculum for the humanities in Mbandaka, the capital of Équateur Province, at Bakusu Primary School. This three-year post-secondary training program, overseen by experts from the Ministry of EDU-NC in collaboration with UNESCO, is designed to strengthen the skills of primary school teachers and enhance their experience. Participants in the program welcome the fact that it aims to make students more competent in everyday life after completing primary and secondary school. It should be noted that eight public primary and secondary schools in Mbandaka have been selected for the pilot phase of this program. The cities of Tshikapa (Kasaï) and Mbanza-Ngungu (Kongo-Central) are also included in this initial pilot phase. To improve the quality of education, the DRC government, through the Ministry of Education and National Culture (EDU-NC), has committed to investing in continuing teacher training, in accordance with the third principle of the ministry’s five-year plan.
