The 13th edition of Science and Technology Week in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was officially launched on Monday, April 14, 2026, by the Ministry of National Education and New Citizenship.

The ceremony, presided over by Minister Raïssa Malu, was held at the Athénée de la Gombe, in the presence of several government officials, including those in charge of Higher and University Education and Scientific Research, Communication and Media, Vocational Training, and Youth and Patriotic Awareness.

Among the participating organizations was the Girls’ Learning and Empowerment Project (PAAF), an initiative of the Ministry of National Education funded by the World Bank. On this occasion, the project’s Deputy Coordinator, Alice Mutambayi, highlighted the dual purpose of their presence at the event.

The goal is to raise awareness of Code 22, a program aimed at combating gender-based violence in schools, as well as encouraging young girls to pursue careers in science.

“We are here as part of the effort to raise awareness of Code 22 in order to combat violence in schools. We want to educate students and their teachers about the violence that can occur in schools. We also have a second major objective: to encourage and inspire girls to pursue science-related fields with a view to building careers that will contribute to the technological development of our society,” she stated.

Alice Mutambayi welcomed the progress already observed thanks to the PAAF, particularly regarding girls’ awareness of the importance of education and their gradual orientation toward scientific disciplines.

However, she believes that further efforts are still needed.

“Change is noticeable, but it is not yet sufficient. We want to further encourage girls to pursue science-related fields. We will continue to raise their awareness and show them the opportunities these fields offer,” she added.

The launch featured visits to various booths showcasing scientific and technological innovations created by students, as well as by companies and organizations active in Kinshasa.

Under the theme “At the Heart of Technical Expertise,” this 13th edition highlights students’ know-how, creativity, and ingenuity. The event brings together participants from several schools in Kinshasa, as well as education officials, partners, and the general public.
