The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has implemented measures to protect students from the Mpox outbreak, with the aim of ensuring a smooth return to school. These measures include disinfecting surfaces, regular handwashing, and the establishment of a toll-free hotline ("151") for reporting suspected cases. These initiatives aim to mobilize the public collectively in the fight against this outbreak. The Minister of Public Health, Roger Kamba, also encouraged vaccination as soon as the vaccine becomes available, emphasizing that it could save lives. "These simple actions can help reduce the risk of Mpox transmission, an epidemic that, while it can affect anyone, poses a particular threat to children," said Roger Kamba. This statement highlights the importance of awareness and prevention in schools. Infection statistics in the DRC are concerning, with more than 1,700 suspected cases recorded since the beginning of the year and a case fatality rate of 3.4%. The most affected provinces, such as Equateur and South Ubangi, require increased vigilance. The Ministry of Public Health emphasizes the need to educate children on good health practices. Parents are also encouraged to play an active role in protecting their children by following government recommendations and fostering a culture of cleanliness at home. For their part, schools must integrate these hygiene measures into their curriculum to ensure a safe environment for all students. The start of the school year is an ideal opportunity to reinforce good hygiene practices and protect children against Mpox. Parents, teachers, and health authorities must join forces to ensure a healthy future for generations to come. Collective vigilance and education remain the best weapons against this disease.
