The Minister of State, Minister of National Education and New Citizenship, Her Excellency Raïssa Malu, chaired a working meeting on Thursday, August 21, 2025, with representatives of the national teachers’ unions. This consultation is part of the final preparations for the start of the school year, scheduled for September 1, 2025. The meeting provided an opportunity to assess the level of implementation of the resolutions adopted at the Bibwa conference in August 2024. On this occasion, the Minister reassured the delegates of the Government’s determination to honor its commitments despite the constraints related to the security situation, in accordance with the principles of ongoing dialogue and administrative strengthening enshrined in the Five-Year Plan (2024–2029). The Minister’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Simon Zono, presented a detailed report on significant progress, citing in particular the operationalization of the Interministerial Monitoring Commission, the granting of a salary increase of 100,000 FC, and the fulfillment of commitments regarding bonuses. He also announced the imminent launch of a mission to clean up the payroll database in all provinces, aimed at eliminating duplicates and fictitious staff. This operation is essential to free up the resources needed to cover the salaries of teachers who are currently unpaid. The President of the Inter-Union Committee, Mr. Godefroid Matondo, welcomed the initiative for dialogue while raising concerns from the field, particularly regarding payment delays and the need for a precise mapping of the teaching staff to definitively resolve the issue of NP and NU teachers. With one week to go before the start of the school year, the government and social partners speak with one voice: that of a more credible public school system, where teachers gradually regain their dignity and students their right to a quality education.
