As part of the implementation of the EFFICACE Project, and to ensure greater visibility for its initiatives—particularly those aimed at promoting the teaching profession—UNESCO has been conducting a capacity-building session for media professionals and communications officers from partner institutions since Tuesday, July 8, in Tshikapa. This four-day training session was launched on behalf of the Governor of Kasai by the Provincial Minister of National Education and New Citizenship, Frédéric Pieme. In his speech, the provincial official noted that this session is part of “the project’s communication strategy, which aims to launch a broad information and awareness campaign on issues related to education.” This campaign will focus on: - the recruitment of young and female teachers, - the transformation of the Congolese education system. UNESCO’s Communications Officer, Henriette Odia, who is leading the UNESCO delegation on this mission, outlined the mission’s scope by noting that through these capacity-building sessions, “UNESCO reaffirms its commitment alongside the Government of the DRC, through the Ministry of National Education and New Citizenship, to improve the quality of teaching and learning with the central theme ‘Teachers and Quality Education,’ a priority enshrined in the Partnership Pact signed in 2022 between the Government of the DRC and its technical and financial partners.” Recalling the government’s commitments, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is firmly committed to reforming and improving the quality of its education system. This national ambition is led by the Government and supported by Technical and Financial Partners (TFPs), in line with the sectoral strategy for education and training. The ongoing reform, the result of a consensus between the Government and its partners, aims primarily to improve teaching and learning conditions, with the following priority: “Teachers and quality education.” Moïse Dianyishayi
