Registration for the recruitment exam for public elementary school teachers, which opened on December 12, will remain open until December 31. The written exam consists of three sections: - French composition; - Didactics and educational psychology; - General knowledge. The minimum passing score for the written exam is 60 points, which qualifies candidates to take the professional practice exam. The professional practice exam consists of preparing and presenting a lesson on a subject selected at random before a panel of judges. After all exams are completed, candidates are ranked in order of merit and assigned based on the availability of vacant positions. In cases of equal competence, priority will be given to women and/or individuals with a disability that is acceptable in the teaching profession. If candidates of the same gender have equal qualifications, priority will be given to the younger candidate. This competitive exam, whose pilot phase was launched last year, is part of the Project for Equity and Strengthening of the Educational System (PERSE), which aims to ensure the quality of those who educate children. Recruitment is, in fact, one of the outcomes linked to disbursements 6 and 7 (SSFE 2016–2025), two reforms designed to support educational quality. PERSE supports the implementation of the Sectoral Strategy and, in this regard, supports the sustainable implementation of free primary education in the DRC through funding from the World Bank, a partner of the DRC.
