The National Primary School Examination (ENAFEP) began on Monday, June 3, 2024, throughout the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). In Kinshasa, the Congolese capital, the official ceremony was presided over by Provincial Minister of Education Charles Mbutamuntu at the Mama Sifa School Complex in the Kinshasa Plateau educational province, in the commune of N'Sele. According to statistics from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (EPST), more than 2,217,456 final-year students, including 1,081,288 girls, are taking these exams, which mark the end of their primary education. They will be assessed over two days, June 3 and 4, in subjects including French, mathematics, general knowledge, and science. The Ministry of Education has taken all necessary measures to ensure these exams proceed smoothly throughout the country. In an official memo, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Tony Mwaba instructed provincial directors of education to take all necessary measures, in collaboration with provincial governments, to ensure that this national exam proceeds smoothly in their respective educational provinces. Since the implementation of free education, participation in the National Primary School Leaving Examination (ENAFEP) is strictly free of charge, as the Congolese government covers all costs.
