Free primary education cannot be discontinued or suspended, as it is not only a constitutional provision but, above all, one of the irrevocable decisions of the President of the Republic and the Government of the DRC. This is the gist of the response from Communications Minister Patrick Muyaya Katembwe to rumors suggesting any kind of cancellation of this government measure. “Free education is one of the irrevocable commitments of the President of the Republic and the Government,” wrote the government spokesperson on his X account. The Government views this rumor as a deliberate attempt to sow doubt and hinder efforts to expand this measure, particularly as the start of the school year approaches. “Attempting to make people believe otherwise amounts to pure manipulation and a deliberate effort to hinder ongoing efforts to expand the measure on the eve of the school year,” he added. Furthermore, Minister Patrick Muyaya calls on the public to exercise greater vigilance and responsibility. “Together, we must fight against fake news and denounce those who spread it,” he urged. Free education is a sacred provision enshrined in Article 43 of the 2006 Constitution and implemented by the Government in 2019. This is one of the flagship measures of the Congolese Government’s social policy aimed at guaranteeing access to education for all children. Bruno Nsaka
