On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, Crispin Mukendi, governor of Kasaï Province, officially launched the distribution of textbooks and educational materials in the Kasaï 1 educational province. These materials will reach a total of 3,560 schools, including 118 preschools, 2,354 elementary schools, and 1,088 secondary schools, in the Kasaï 1 educational province. According to the Director of this educational province, Virginie Alembe, the goal of this distribution is to reinforce free primary education and improve the quality of education, in accordance with the vision of the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi. In his speech, Governor Crispin Mukendi emphasized that this initiative aims to provide quality education to all students without charging any fees for the distribution of textbooks.
"No fees will be charged for the distribution of these textbooks to teachers and students in all schools, and no textbooks may be sold," he stated.
He also encouraged students to make good use of these educational materials to master the subjects and thus contribute to a better future. For his part, the Provincial Chief Inspector (PPI) of Kasaï 1, Willy Nkoy Lunsang, clarified that this allocation applies to both public and private schools. Regarding the distribution itself, a schedule will be established to ensure that school principals receive the textbooks, which they must then distribute free of charge to the beneficiaries.
“These textbooks are meant to be used from one generation to the next. Any attempt to sell them will be severely punished,” he emphasized.
This distribution of textbooks is part of the efforts undertaken by the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to ensure quality education accessible to all, as outlined in the sectoral strategy for education and training. Willy Kambulu
