Ituri: capacity-building for Ministry of EDUC-NC staff in public finance management

Dieudonné Omasombo Nkunga, Deputy Chief of Staff for Economy and Finance to the Governor of Ituri Province, closed the training session for teachers and education system stakeholders from three educational provinces on budget preparation and public procurement management. According to Julie Kavira, a specialist with the Project for Equity and Strengthening of the Education System (PERSE) in Ituri, the training aimed to strengthen participants’ capacities and skills in budget preparation and public procurement management. The sessions were facilitated by Professor Archelin Fausaka Mpia of the University of Kinshasa. Four modules were delivered on the preparation and execution of public investment projects, implementation planning, budget planning and preparation, and public procurement. In his closing remarks, Dieudonné Omasombo Nkunga, Deputy Chief of Staff for Economy and Finance to the Governor of Ituri Province, thanked the facilitator, participants, and technical and financial partners for their commitment and contribution to the success of this training. “The material you have received is not merely information; it is an essential tool for management based on responsibility, commitment, and accountability,” he said. PERSE is an initiative of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) aimed at supporting the transition to free primary education. It is funded by the World Bank and implements measures to improve teachers’ salaries, cover school operating costs, and strengthen human and financial resource management systems. This project primarily targets ten (10) provinces in the country: Ituri, Kasai, Kasai Central, Kasai Oriental, Lomami, North Kivu, South Kivu, and Kwilu. Jirel Kitoko
