Raïssa Malu, Minister of National Education and New Citizenship, arrived on Wednesday, September 4, in the province of Kasaï Central as part of an inspection tour of this region of the country. The visit began at the Royal Athenaeum of Kananga, where the completion of rehabilitation and construction work on certain facilities is estimated at 95%. The head of the sub-sector wants to see this work accelerated given the slight delay already incurred relative to the start of the school year, which began on September 2. Minister Raïssa Malu also visited the facilities of the National Education Radio and Television (RTEDUC) in Kananga, a primary school in the Katoka district, the Higher Pedagogical Institute (ISP), and Buena Muntu High School.   This Catholic charter school run by the Sisters of the Congregation of the Charity of Jesus and Mary still bears the scars of a fire that occurred in April 2024. The roof of one building caught fire, and since then, some classrooms have been unfit to accommodate students. Well before visiting the province of Kasaï Central, the Minister of EDU-NC was in Tshikapa, Kasaï, where she had launched the 2024–2025 school year. As a reminder, the Athénée Royal de Kananga is an old building dating back to 1954, during the colonial era. The buildings had since fallen into disrepair until renovation work began in 2023 as part of the Popesu project. Ouriel Mangitukwa
