Classes resumed on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, throughout the Democratic Republic of the Congo, following the end-of-year holidays. In Kinshasa, the Inspector General of National Education and New Citizenship (EDU-NC), Hubert Kimbonza, visited the Nyota School Complex and Frère Alingwa Middle School in the Lukunga educational province to verify whether students have internalized the “Citizen’s Oath.”

We were at the Nyota School Complex. I left there feeling truly very pleased. The 7th-grade students recited the Citizen’s Oath, which they have mastered very well, as they were able to explain each element of the oath, he stated.

According to the Inspector General, with this momentum, in six years, the country will undoubtedly have Congolese citizens who respect the res publica, honor their commitments, and are unwilling to sell their dignity for money.

‎At Frère Alingwa Middle School, Hubert Kimbonza spoke with the graduating students, a routine exercise for any inspector. He strongly urged them to devote themselves exclusively to their studies, to do nothing but study, setting aside all kinds of negative influences related to exam preparation, as well as unnecessary contribution funds intended for corruption, in order to succeed on the State Exam. Some students expressed a desire to know how to react if, in an exam room, a proctor or center director asks them for money. He advised them to stand firm, be good citizens, and report such individuals. According to the Inspector General, if these individuals are reported, measures will be taken the very next day to remove them from the testing centers and punish them, because, he stated, “we aspire to a new nation, a new DRC.” Christian BELLA
