The preliminary hearing for the police officers who fired warning shots to disperse a student demonstration in the city of Matadi last Monday began on Tuesday, October 8, at the Matadi Garrison Military Court and was adjourned until Wednesday. The two police officers, one in uniform and the other in civilian clothes, had fired shots to disperse the students who were demanding the resumption of classes. Tried under summary proceedings, the two officers will answer to the court on the charges brought against them, including the misuse of ammunition. The Mayor of Matadi, Dominique Nkodia Mbete, who is named in the case, will also have to appear in court, as one of the defendants is a police officer assigned to his security detail. According to witnesses, during the crackdown on this demonstration, ten students were arrested and others were injured. These demonstrations were initiated by students from ITP Matadi, Institut Belvédère, Maranatha, and ITP Kwansambu. Ivan Mudiangombé
