Senior officials and experts from the Ministry of National Education and New Citizenship (EDU-NC), project managers from the sub-sector, as well as members of the office of the Minister of State for National Education, gathered on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, on the occasion of National Education Day, to discuss strategic reforms aimed at revitalizing the education system and improving the quality of teaching and learning. This discussion focused on the theme “Educate to Transform, Train to Build.” This day of reflection is part of a subdued celebration of National Education Day this year, due to the difficult circumstances the country is facing, particularly in its eastern region, where major urban areas are occupied by the Rwandan army and M23 rebels. It was therefore an opportunity for the Minister and all stakeholders in the National Education System (EDU-NC) to express their sensitivity to the realities of the country and their respect for those suffering the consequences of the ongoing conflicts. A tribute was paid to all the country’s teachers who, despite daily challenges, are shaping the future of 29,544,559 schoolchildren. A special thought was extended to those working in the eastern part of the country, in occupied zones, where they carry out their mission under extremely difficult conditions marked by fear and insecurity. Their commitment, dedication, and resilience deserve to be recognized and celebrated, for they are the true builders of the nation’s future. This day of reflection and tribute underscores the inestimable value of education, a fundamental pillar for achieving the development of a peaceful and prosperous nation. Indeed, education is not limited to the acquisition of knowledge: it also plays an essential role in shaping responsible and engaged citizens capable of contributing positively to their communities. On the sidelines of this April 30 event, it was emphasized that investing in education means sowing the seeds of a better future for all. This involves, in particular, improving school infrastructure and training teachers. Thus, this day of reflection, held in Kinshasa (specifically in Silikin Village), represents an important step toward transforming the education system, which must live up to the aspirations of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Minister of State Raïssa Malu’s initiative encourages the active participation of EDU-NC stakeholders, which could lead to solutions for addressing current challenges, particularly the long-awaited improvement in the quality of education.
