The Mbuji-Mayi 2 educational subdivision, in the Kasaï-Oriental educational province, organized a recruitment competition for teachers and principals of public elementary schools. This initiative is part of the reforms undertaken by the Ministry of National Education and New Citizenship to improve the quality of education in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The competition, consisting of written and practical exams, attracted a large number of candidates, including many young people and women, whose presence was particularly noticeable at the testing center. Registration, which was completely free, took place online via the official platform, in addition to the physical submission of applications to the subdivision. The high turnout observed is the result of a communication campaign conducted through press releases and outreach efforts targeting local communities. This recruitment system, established over two years ago, aims to professionalize access to the teaching profession by making the competitive exam a mandatory step for entry into the public education system. The names of candidates who obtained the highest scores will be posted at the sub-division’s office and entered into the official database, ensuring transparent and merit-based recruitment. In the interest of equity, special attention is given to women, young people, and people with disabilities, who have long been marginalized in selection processes. These groups are given priority, provided they demonstrate performance equivalent to or better than that of other candidates. This initiative is supported by the Project for Equity and Strengthening of the Educational System (PERSE), which works to modernize Congolese public primary schools, strengthen teachers’ skills, and improve access to quality education for all children.
