At the first meeting of the Education Thematic Group (ETG) on Tuesday, August 5, in Kinshasa, regarding the political endorsement of the Strategy for Education and Training in Emergency Situations (SEFSU), Raïssa Malu, Congolese Minister of National Education and New Citizenship (EDU-NC) and chair of the GTE, emphasized the need to implement this strategy in light of current challenges. The Minister of State explained that, given the recurrence of future climate crises, the validation of this strategy is absolutely necessary, as this situation will soon become the norm. With this in mind, she emphasized the urgency for all state institutions, particularly those responsible for education, to adapt to this situation. The meeting culminated in the signing of the political commitment document to validate the SEFSU by the representative of the Presidency of the Republic, Minister of State Raïssa Malu, the Minister of Higher and University Education (ESU), Marie-Thérèse Sombo Ayanne, the represented Technical and Financial Partners (TFP), UNICEF’s Education Officer in the DRC, Francis Ndem, as well as other stakeholders. This validation follows working sessions on the document last May, notably the residential workshop in Mbanza-Ngungu, in Kongo-Central, from May 8 to 14, 2025, as well as its review and amendment on May 22, 2025, by government experts, in collaboration with technical and financial partners and civil society.
