The “Efficace” project aims to implement key reforms to improve career management for teachers, professionalize their training, and enhance learning conditions, particularly in the most disadvantaged areas. This project, which also promotes girls’ education, is an initiative of the Congolese government in collaboration with GPE, AFD, UNESCO, and UNICEF. It is funded to the tune of $65.8 million, of which $18 million is earmarked for girls’ education, with implementation scheduled from 2024 to 2028. The project’s objectives are: - to enhance and revitalize the teaching workforce; - to promote merit-based recruitment and a professional development system for teachers; - to improve teaching and learning conditions for successful schooling; - to strengthen coordination and sectoral dialogue. EFFICACE divides its approach into four components to achieve these objectives. These include: - "Improving the management of teachers’ end-of-career transitions." This component will, among other things, identify eligible teachers based on established procedures and calculate severance payments. - "Promoting the professionalization of teachers": This will be dedicated, among other things, to developing the curriculum for IFME students, as well as training guides and tools. - "Improving teaching and learning conditions" This will focus, among other things, on mobilizing communities to ensure children’s enrollment in school, particularly girls. - "Support for the functioning of consultative bodies" This initiative will focus on developing the new interministerial sectoral education strategy, incorporating gender strategies and education in emergency situations. It should be noted that Efficace has made girls’ access to school its flagship initiative by implementing strategies to overcome all obstacles standing in the way. Michaëlle Kiasungwa
