The Girls’ Learning and Empowerment Project (PAAF), funded by the World Bank, launched a national workshop on August 24, 2025, running through September 5 in Mbanza-Ngungu at the KOLA reception center, to develop teaching guides for science lesson plans intended for students from 8th grade in primary school through 10th grade in secondary school. This activity, led by the Directorate of School Programs and Teaching Materials with support from SERNAFOR Secondary, is part of the science curriculum reform in the DRC initiated by the PEQPESU project. The Ministry’s Technical Team, supported by an international consultant recruited by PAAF, is continuing this work by operationalizing the matrices through concrete and contextualized teaching tools that take into account cross-cutting themes, notably gender, inclusion, environmental education, and digital technology (artificial intelligence), which will be fully integrated into these worksheets and will thus enable students to acquire key 21st-century skills in accordance with international quality standards. According to Rose LETA, a specialist in teacher professional development for the PAAF project, the ultimate goal is to translate the curriculum competencies into operational teaching worksheets for teachers. These guides must specify the objectives, content, methods, and assessment procedures. The workshop will also address the development of a regulatory framework for the use of these tools so that teachers, educational supervisors, and school administrators can work toward a shared vision and share a common understanding of the reform. This ambitious project is part of a political commitment affirmed by the Minister of State, Minister of National Education and New Citizenship, Ms. Raïssa Malu, who intends to raise the standards of secondary school teachers to boost the improvement of education quality in the DRC.
