On Wednesday, February 5, the Ministry of National Education and New Citizenship announced the signing of a historic decree aimed at organizing and regulating distance learning for primary, secondary, and technical education. This initiative is part of President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo’s vision for a modern, inclusive education system accessible to all Congolese citizens. The decree positions the DRC within the global trend toward digital education and aims to ensure equal access to quality and equitable education, whether in urban or rural areas. It is also designed to integrate modern technologies and support teachers in their digital transition. Inspired by UNESCO’s recommendations, the decree ensures that distance learning remains inclusive, while promoting a regulatory framework in line with international standards. The initiative takes on even greater importance in a context marked by armed conflict and political instability in certain parts of the country. Distance learning thus offers a valuable solution, enabling students to continue their education even when physical schools are closed or there are mass population displacements. Beyond ensuring educational continuity, this distance learning also prepares young Congolese people for the demands of the ever-evolving digital world, particularly in fields such as technology, engineering, management, and the sciences. Although challenges remain, particularly regarding infrastructure, accessibility, and support for teachers, the Ministry of EDU-NC welcomes the progress made. These advances open new horizons for a better-educated Congolese youth, ready to meet the challenges of the future. Chouquette Bombula
